What's a girl to do without her man?

She makes Jam!

So last year Ryan's mom showed the girls in the family how to make some yummy raspberry jam. It has lasted us about a year. We ran out of the stuff just a few weeks ago. Somehow it didn't even occur to me to make more. I didn't even think about the fact that there might not be any fruit left in season. I was going to buy store jam and asked which kind Ryan liked since he hadn't been too keen on the smuckers that I had bought before. He told me he actually didn't like store bought jam. He grew up on homemade. Oh dear. Looks like I need to make some jam! Well, luckily strawberries are still around and I got a pretty good deal.

I got 8 of these little packages of strawberries at 4/$5. Ryan prefers raspberry jam but I guess he'll just have to suck it up. (J/k hon!)

So I mashed the strawberries.

And I bought some pectin. Unfortunately after the first trip to the store I realized that I didn't buy enough. Plus I only had 4 jars. So I bought 2 packs of jars and a bunch of pectin. ( I know I probably could have bought some used jars for cheaper, but I was on a time crunch. The strawberries were getting very ripe).

I just followed the directions in the package. Fruit, sugar, and pectin. Mix it together. Freezer jam is super easy! Just don't think about how much sugar is in it. :-)

I managed to make 18 bottles of jam. What was I thinking? I started out with only 4 jars. I severely overestimated how much fruit it would take to make jam. Oh well I guess we got our year supply.

For FHE dessert night I just made some cupcakes and filled with jam. Ta da!

I love freezer jam! I made some this summer, but it won't be enough to last all year.

wow I'm impressed! You have become quiet the homemaker! If funny how you become more and more a homemaker the more time you have a home, without having to fit school or work it.
