It's a little disheartening to me how often we deny the poor the things they want and need because the things they want are things that we wouldn't want for ourselves. Good intentions can't excuse poor judgments made in willing ignorance.
To insist on American-standard working conditions for developing countries is to set a standard that is unattainable in the short run, effectively damming their economic progress.
Why not focus on what the impoverished people want, instead of what we think they should want?
P.S. Came across an interesting Blog that purports to "...be brutally honest when aid is not helping the poor, but also praising it when it is"
