Rockin' Out

The best way to start this post is by stating that School of Rock is one of my favorite movies. The main reason for this is that, in my fantasies, I relate so well to Jack Black's character. That's right, in my fantasies, I'm someone who eats, drinks, sleeps and lives Rock 'N' Roll. As such, I felt the desire to blog about something that I find rather disturbing - the flagrant misuse of the term "Rocking Out". The main culprit: Hannah Montana (and others like her).

That teen pop stars are able to refer to what they do as "Rocking Out" reeks of a foul sacrilege that desecrates the term "Rock" altogether. These pop stars are placing themselves in the same standing as the Rock and Metal Gods of the past/present/future: Led Zeppelin, The Who, AC/DC, Metallica, Megadeth, Aerosmith, etc. How dare they!?!?

Let this resonate clear and true: Singing songs written and played by other people that are not of the Rock and/or Roll genre does not now, nor will it EVER constitute "Rocking Out". To refer to it as such is the Rock equivalent of burning the Bible.
